Project Details:
This is an adaptation in Marathi of the book ‘The Nature of Economies’ by the great Canadian architect economist Jane Jacobs. The question they discuss is: Does economic life obey the same rules as those governing the systems in nature? With the simplicity of an extremely wise and seasoned thinker, Jane Jacobs showed us that by looking to nature, we can develop economies that are both efficient and ecologically friendly.
The cover design and chapter opening illustrate various natural processes in progression – from the development of an embryo and the formation of a river delta to the invention of the wheel and its applications – to the increasing height of skyscrapers around the world.
Jane Jacobs was an American-Canadian journalist, author, theorist, and activist who influenced urban studies, sociology, and economics. Her book The Death and Life of Great American Cities argued that “urban renewal” and “slum clearance” did not respect the needs of city-dwellers.
